The short answer
Columbia Publication prints books for authors in any quantity: author copies, launch and event stock, and special editions in paperback, hardcover, lay-flat and wire-o. File preparation, a free digital proof and delivery to one address or several are included, with no setup fee. Your written quote arrives within one business day. Short runs print digitally; bigger runs move to offset, where each copy costs less.

The press is the easy part. The trouble starts on either side of it.
Files come back for missing bleed or an unembedded font a week before the event. A local shop quotes a trim it has never run. Print-on-demand copies trickle in five at a time, and the last batch lands the day after the signing. Then three addresses need cartons, and you are the one on the phone with the freight company.
So we take both ends. We preflight and fix your files before they reach press, send a free digital proof, print what you approved and ship to every address on one order. One contact, one invoice, and the result is our responsibility, not yours.
Published benchmarks
Before you compare quotes, know the floor. This is what Amazon KDP charges to print one copy of the same book, 328 pages at 6 × 9 inches, from its published price list.

The math is simple once you see it. A KDP black and white paperback costs $1.00 plus $0.012 a page, so 328 pages comes to $1.00 + $3.94 = $4.94. Hardcover starts from a $5.65 fixed cost instead. In Reedsy’s test of the same black and white book, print on demand ran from $4.94 (KDP) to $6.00 (IngramSpark). Offset works the other way round: Reedsy reports Acutrack at $5.85 a copy for a 200-page book, dropping to $3.25 once the run passes 2,000.

A PDF of the finished files. Check the layout, the text, the page order, where each image sits and how the cover lines up. Nothing goes to press until you sign off on it.
A bound copy on the real paper and finish. A screen cannot show you true color, how the paper feels or how the binding holds. Worth it for color interiors, hardcovers and premium finishes. Billed separately.
Printing starts the day you approve the proof, not on a date we picked. Your approved specification stays on file, so the next reprint matches this run.
