Gravitas Press is a curated publishing imprint operating under Columbia Publishing LLC, priced from $25,000 to $45,000. It exists for authors who want the infrastructure of a traditional publisher without surrendering their rights or their royalties, whether they have already written a serious book or need our ghostwriting team to write it with them from scratch.
Most publishing paths sit at two extremes. Traditional publishing offers prestige but demands years of query letters, agent relationships, and editorial gatekeeping that has little to do with the quality of your work. Self-publishing offers speed and control but leaves every production decision, every design choice, and every marketing call entirely on the author.
Gravitas Press sits between those extremes intentionally. Our editorial team reads every submission. Our designers work with your vision, not against it. And when your book is published, it carries an imprint name built for the trade, not a generic print-on-demand label.
Gravitas Press is an imprint of Columbia Publishing LLC, an Arlington, VA publishing consultancy serving authors worldwide.
Manuscript Categories
We do not publish every book. We publish the ones where the author has something definitive to say and has said it with rigor, whether that book already exists as a manuscript or exists only in your head and our ghostwriting team helps you write it. These are the categories we consider.
Reported stories, investigative accounts, and deeply researched books that read with the momentum of fiction. Subject matter expertise plus a compelling narrative arc.
Books from founders, executives, and practitioners with proprietary insight. Not another leadership framework rehash. Original method, lived experience, verifiable outcomes.
Stories of genuine consequence. The reader finishes understanding something about their own life they did not know before they started yours.
Primary source research, original interviews, or a fresh perspective on documented events. We look for manuscripts that add something new to the historical record.
Literary fiction is accepted selectively, based on the manuscript. Character-driven, language-conscious, with a point of view that earns the reader's sustained attention.
Practical guidance grounded in professional experience or clinical evidence. Results-oriented. Speaks to a specific reader problem with specificity and authority.
Gravitas Press Programs
Some authors need more than manuscript-to-publication support. Gravitas Press runs named programs for authors whose books carry an additional layer of production, audience, and launch complexity.
A Gravitas Press program built for politicians and public officials: writing or editorial elevation, cover design, formatting, full-service publishing, media coordination, and a fully produced local book signing event structured as a constituent meet-and-greet. Starts at $35,000.
Publishing Support
Every Gravitas Press title receives the full production stack. Nothing is optional. Nothing is outsourced to the author without support. If you are on the ghostwriting path, our writing team completes your manuscript before this stack begins.
If you have a manuscript, a dedicated editor reviews it for structure, voice, and argument, with developmental notes before copyediting begins. If you do not, our senior writer and editorial director interview you and write the manuscript with you from scratch. No assembly-line feedback either way.
Professional copyediting pass for grammar, consistency, and style. Final proofreading before print-ready files are generated.
A professional book cover designed for the trade market. Interior typeset to publishing standards for both print and ebook formats.
ISBN assignment, so your book enters the market with a complete publishing record. Where an author wants their work registered with the US Copyright Office, we guide them through the process. Registration is not required to work with us. Filing assistance is available and quoted separately.
Amazon KDP, IngramSpark wholesale distribution, and ebook distribution to major retailers including Apple Books, Barnes and Noble, and Kobo.
Amazon listing optimization, author page setup, press release, and a 90-day launch plan. You retain complete control of your marketing decisions.
Physical Craftsmanship
A Gravitas Press book is produced to be an object worth keeping, not just a book worth reading. Through our production partners, Gravitas engagements can include premium physical craftsmanship: cloth or leather cover binding, gold or silver foil stamping, gilded or painted page edges, custom-designed dust jackets, and embossed or debossed cover detailing. For clients producing gift editions or presentation copies, a fitted slipcase is also available.
These finishes are considered as part of your Gravitas engagement and scoped individually based on your project — not a standard package, but a set of options we discuss once your manuscript and vision are clear.
The result is a book that feels as substantial in hand as the ideas inside it — the kind of object handed across a desk, not left on a shelf.
From Submission to Publication
Four clear stages. No ambiguity about where your book stands at any point.
If you have a manuscript, submit your synopsis and first three chapters. If you don't, submit a concept summary instead, no chapters required. Editorial review within 5 business days either way.
If selected, a consultation call with your assigned editor or writer covers scope, timeline, and production plan.
From a manuscript: editorial passes, cover design, interior layout, and final proofing. From scratch: interviews and drafting first, then the same production stack. Timelines are set against your specification and delivery date, and confirmed with your quote.
Your book goes live across all distribution channels. Launch support begins immediately on publication day.
