At a glance

What is Bible paper printing?

Bible paper printing uses very light, opaque paper so a book of 1,000 or more pages stays a manageable thickness. Ordinary book paper is 70 to 100 gsm; thin-paper editions use around 40 gsm, with a sewn binding because glue alone cannot hold thin sheets. You approve a proof before printing, and a specialist replies within one business day.

A good fit if

  • Scriptures, commentaries and study editions of 1,000+ pages
  • Reference books and dictionaries that must stay portable
  • Editions that will be read daily for years

Not the right fit if

  • Your book is under about 600 pages (standard paper is usually better; see bulk book printing)
  • You need full-colour photos on every page

Good to know

Why thin paper, and how to choose it.

Paper weight decides how thick a long book becomes. At 70 to 100 gsm, a 1,800-page book is unwieldy; at around 40 gsm it becomes a book people can carry and read daily. Opacity matters as much as weight: a good thin sheet keeps text on the other side of the page from showing through.

Thin sheets also change the binding. Glue alone cannot hold hundreds of very light pages, so thin-paper editions are Smyth sewn: the sections are stitched together, the book opens flat, and the pages stay in through years of use.

Bible paper or opaque woodfree?

Bible paper is the thinnest and lightest choice. Opaque lightweight woodfree at 40 to 42 gsm is a stable alternative with good contrast. Your specialist recommends one based on page count, reading use and budget.

What is a flexibound cover?

A printed art paper cover turned over a flexible board core and laminated. It gives a sturdy spine with a softer, flexible feel than hardcover, and suits long editions that are read often.

Questions

Thin-paper printing questions, answered.

Still have a question? Ask it in your quote request, or call +1 (703) 997-9787.

How thick a book can you print on thin paper?

Volumes of 1,800+ pages are printed on 40 to 42 gsm paper and Smyth sewn. Tell us your page count and we confirm the specification for your edition.

Will text show through thin paper?

Choosing the right opacity keeps show-through low. A physical proof on the real paper lets you check before the full run.

Why use 70 gsm cream uncoated for some books?

For shorter editions that are read at length, uncoated cream paper reduces glare and suits black-and-white text.

How fast will I get my quote?

A print specialist replies within one business day, every time. Most quotes arrive in that first reply. For large or specialised editions, such as 10,000+ copies, Bible paper, Smyth-sewn bindings or premium covers, we take a little longer to get every detail right: your specialist confirms the specifications with you first and sends the complete quote within three business days. You never wait without knowing what happens next.

Is there a minimum order?

No. Any quantity is welcome, from a single congregation to a national program. Tell us what you need and a print specialist replies within one business day with a custom quote for your exact quantity.

What do you need from me to quote?

The text or edition, the page count (or an existing copy we can match), the quantity, your delivery ZIP code and your deadline. If you are unsure about paper, binding or cover, tell us how the books will be used, for example pews, giveaways, study or gifts, and your specialist recommends the specification.

Do you only print, or do you manage the whole project?

The whole project. One specialist handles your order from the first specification to delivery at your door: spec advice, file checks, proofs, production checks, packing for each destination and the delivery itself.

Will I see a proof before anything is printed?

Yes. A digital proof is free on every order. A physical proof, showing the actual paper, cover and binding, is available on request and billed separately. Nothing is printed until you approve.

How long does production take?

Your quote gives a confirmed schedule built around the date you need the books, before you place the order. Timelines differ by page count, paper, binding and quantity, so we confirm yours rather than publish one blanket figure.

Can you deliver to several churches, mosques, synagogues, temples or campuses on one order?

Yes. Split delivery is agreed before production, and the order is counted, packed and routed separately for each destination.

What if our building has no loading dock?

Tell us in your request. Large orders arrive on pallets, so your quote sets out how the delivery reaches you, including whether a liftgate or a booked delivery appointment is needed, and someone will need to be there to sign for it.

How does payment work?

Payment is made in full once you approve the written quote. It books press time and buys the paper for your run, which is what fixes your delivery date. Churches, mosques, temples and other organizations that buy by purchase order can issue one, and every invoice cites its number.

Can you reprint the same edition later?

Yes. Your approved specification is kept on file, and reprints are produced against it, so the next run matches the first in paper, binding and finish.

Do you deliver outside the United States?

Yes, on request. Your quote sets out the delivery method and timing for your destination.
